Here’s a ‘how to’ guide from the CT5 People’s Forum Eco Group

In the CT5 area we are very fortunate to have Blean Woods right on our doorstep but would you also like to see more trees in Whitstable itself? There are many positives about having trees in urban areas: for example they provide shade on hot days, they take pollutants out of the air and they also tend to increase property prices!

One way to add trees is to plant them in grass verges which run along the side of many roads in CT5. These verges are the responsibility of Kent County Council (KCC) and they will plant a tree on your behalf if you request it. If you would like to do this, follow these easy steps!

1) go to the KCC website to 'report a fault'- click here for the link https://webapps.kent.gov.uk/KCC.KHSFaultsGIS.Web.Sites.Public/ReportAFault.aspx

2) click on ‘Please select fault type’

3) scroll down towards the bottom to find ‘Trees- Tree Planting Request’

4) put in your details as requested and add where you would like the tree planted in the box titled ‘Where exactly is the fault’

5) submit your request

4) be patient! KCC will check for suitability by looking at overhead cables and underground utility services

5) KCC will inform you by email if they will plant a tree and when they will do it (the tree planting season is usually autumn/winter).

That's it! Good luck and please let us know at how you get on at Ct5.eco@outlook.com
