Meeting held: 19th September 2023
Above are some key slides from the presentation given by Southern Water or a downloadable pdf version is available below.
Several members of the Southern Water team were present at the meeting, as were two people from the Environment Agency, SOS Whitstable, local Canterbury City Councillors and MP Rosie Duffields' office were also represented.
The main focus of the presentation was to hear about updates since the last meeting, including the following:
Pathfinder project
The reconfiguration of the Swalecliffe treatment works with the aim of a 20% reduction in discharges
The development of the short sea outfall
Improvements to the Beach Buoy website to give more accurate data
The Swalecliffe Brook Restoration Project
Plenty of probing questions were asked and there was a feeling expressed by people attending that there seems to be a lack of urgency in the work being undertaken. There was also a sense that the Environment Agency, as the regulatory body, doesn't have the resources to do the comprehensive work that is needed.
Another meeting is scheduled for 28th November and in the meantime an SOS protest took place on 23rd September on Tankerton Beach.
